Before you order
Measure the space, not the cat
A litter box needs roughly one and a half times the length of the cat, plus room for the hood. If your cat is 45 cm nose to tail, a 50 cm pan is the minimum, not the comfortable option.
Carriers: the interior is about 3 cm smaller than the outside on every side. Check your airline’s under-seat height before you pick a hard shell.
Potty trays need a wall behind them. A dog that lifts a leg will clear a tray with no guard, whatever the length.

How big should a litter box be?

Stainless steel vs plastic litter boxes: what actually changes
Plastic is lighter and cheaper and does the job for years. Steel costs more for one reason: it never absorbs odour. Here is where each one wins, and when a pan is simply past saving.

Your cat stopped using the litter box. Work through this list in order.
Nine times out of ten it is the box, not the cat. Start with a vet visit to rule out the medical causes, then work through location, size, litter depth, hood and cleaning schedule in that order.
